Gilbert police chief John Brewer announced that his department will add additional officers, enlarge the investigations unit and enlarge traffic enforcement. The changes will take place over the next four years.
Brewer told the Town Council’s Police Service Standards Subcommittee on Tuesday that he is particularly concerned about the rise in traffic fatalities. Brewer believes that traffic fatalities are one of the greatest dangers to citizens.
Brewer stated that the Police Department will hire two traffic officers over the next year and six more in 2008-’09, along with a traffic lieutenant. By then, the department should have three traffic units. For now, there is a night and day traffic unit.
