Behind the Scenes in Blood Alcohol Testing and Testimony

Recently, Lawrence Koplow co-wrote a brief on behalf of the Arizona Attorneys for Criminal Justice, in support of Matthew Voris, an Arizona man charged with DUI in 2010.

The brief’s co-author, Joseph St. Louis, shared some insight into their arguments in a blog post called “Don’t Believe Everything You Read: Why Printed Blood Test Results Don’t Allow Experts to Determine a Person’s Actual Blood Alcohol Concentration“.

The post explains, with plain language and photos, how blood alcohol testing works, and how easily errors can occur — before the sample gets to the lab, and during the testing process through analyst mistakes or software problems.
